PRESS RELEASE
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE April 19, 2007 - FOSTER READY TO BATTLE FOR ROOKIE CHAMP
PHOENIX, Arizona -- Ryan Foster, driving for the Richard Childress Development Program and
Golden Gate Racing, is geared up for the NASCAR Grand National Division, West Series
AlphaTrade.com 150 at Phoenix International Raceway. The second race in the new NASCAR
series will be run under the lights Thursday night, April 19 on the 1 mile track in the
Valley of the Sun, Phoenix. I really like this track. We practiced a few weeks ago
here and I loved the speed and having the room to race will be great, Foster said.
After making their debut at the series opener in Kyle Texas with a Top Ten finish and now
seated 10th in points, the team is primed to take the momentum to this bigger venue.
Foster, who started his racing career at the age of 8, has nearly 300 feature wins,
several Late Model championships, 3 Southwestern Tour Hard Charger Awards in 3 races, 4
state and national Legends championships with 25 out of 30 main event wins at 8 tracks and
7 Outlaw Dirt Sprint Kart series and national championships. He brings the skills learned
in each division to the high speed competition of the Grand National.
Fosters team, Golden Gate Racing, captained by owner Jim Offenbach and Steve
Portenga; crew chief, is the west coasts RCR Driver Development team. Foster is one
of 11 Rookie drivers competing in the rookie points battle. After our top ten
finish in Texas, we know Ryan will have a great showing. said Steve Portenga,
veteran driver and now crew chief of the #21 Golden Gate Meat Company Chevy Monte Carlo.
At his first rigorous testing at P.I. R, a few weeks ago, I hadnt expected
Ryan to adjust to the big track as quickly as he did. Im impressed, continued
Portenga. Team owner Jim Offenbach said, We are really excited and totally committed
to our new rookie.
The Golden Gate Racing Team will have a second entry at Phoenix. Tim McCreadie (No. 31
Golden Gate/RCR Chevrolet) will make his NASCAR Grand National Division debut at PIR.
McCreadie is coming off a career year in which he won the World of Outlaws Late Model
championship, won the prestigious Chili Bowl Midget Nationals and was named Eastern
Motorsports Press Association Driver of the Year. With both drivers in the race, longtime
friends Richard Childress and Jim Offenbach will be taking in every moment of the race as
the share a vantage point at the track.
This weekend is one of the biggest NASCAR companion events of the 2007 season. In addition
to the West Series race on Thursday, both the NASCAR Busch Series and the NEXTEL Cup will
run the venue Friday and Saturday.
Many factors will combine to make this race a pivotal point for the series. Expanded media
exposure will vastly increase viewer and listener base. Live High Definition (HDTV)
coverage on HDNET plus an enhanced replay of the race on SPEED TV will present the race to
millions of international viewers. Always looking to new technology, NASCAR has expanded
their media coverage to include Satellite Radio broadcasts and internet simulcasts and
webcasts, such as the new feature, Showdown. Showdown is an audio webcast streamed from
the www.nascarlocalracing.com website, which will broadcast each race week during the
entire NGND season, 16 shows in all. The NASCAR Grand National series was selected for the
spotlight because of its rapidly changing nature and the importance NASCAR is placing on
the series, particularly with respect to it becoming a more nationally-recognized venue
Add to this over $200,000 in purse money and the excitement of a double companion race for
NASCAR week in Phoenix and you have a prime opportunity for enhancing sponsorship and
promotional campaigns.
This kind of global exposure is one of the best things we can do for our sponsors. The
Golden Gate Racing Team and all our great sponsors are really excited about the enhanced
television exposure and the opportunities that the scale of this weekend with the Nextel
Cup & Busch Series is bound to bring; I cant wait, the #21 driver Foster
claimed.
